Butterfly Soul Connection
Butterflies: A Soul Connection
The ancient Greek word, psyche, refers to both the butterfly and the soul.
Liza Dalby, in an article entitled, "There is Much We Do Not Know about the Feelings of Butterflies" in the July 2008 issue of Shambhala Sun, recalled the story of a time she visited her mother's grave in Japan. On that day, Liza was told that no one visited her grave, except one old friend who came one time a year. During the visit, a butterfly landed atop her mother's stone. As it opened and closed it's wings, it seemed to be looking at Liza. Her intuition told her that the butterfly was trying to communicate with her. A wind blew the butterfly away, but returned shortly and landed upon her offering of flowers where it, again, opened and closed it's wings like a beacon. This time, Liza held out her hand and the butterfly climbed onto her finger. Once again they looked at one another for about 10 seconds until it flew off.
There is a widespread, longstanding belief, especially in Japan, that there is a connection between souls and butterflies. In fact, the ancient Greek word, psyche, refers to both the butterfly and the soul.
