Los Angeles photographer Jonathan Brandstein's photos can be described as, National Geographic meets MTV. His Sultans of Sand project was shot on the road to the world's most remote music festival, the annual Festival in the Desert, a gathering of electric guitar loving Tuaregs in Mali, Africa. One of Bandstein's photos from the trip graces the cover of Jimmy Buffett's 2009 album, Buffet Hotel and some are displayed at the Roxy Theater on the Sunset Strip in L.A. Other works from the series have been featured in the New York Times and his short film Tracks in the Sand (watch video) was used as part of the RED/Vanity Fair campaign for Africa.
